2004 Cubs Go To Kindergarten

FROM WOLONG — News from Wolong is the 6 cubs born in 2004 have been weaned from their mothers and are now > the Wolong Kindergarten. They are learning to get used to their new formula and new environment. This is a very cute age.

All six cubs share an enclosure, which features indoor and outdoor areas. There is lots of enrichment to replicate their natural environment.

They are leaning about new foods like carrots and bamboo.

They are learning to climb on all the enrichment equipment in their enclosure.

Caretakers still watch them around the clock. Some times they like to combine the climbing and the eating. And like all kids they like to chew on everything!

Four of the cubs were single births. Hua Mei, the panda born at the San Diego Zoo, delivered twin boys. Pandas International, through our supporters, has adopted the twins and named the first or older of the two cubs was named “Da Hua Sheng”, which means older Chinese-American, reflecting the ties between China and America. The younger cub was named “Hao Yun” meaning Good Fortune, reflecting what we hope will be the good fortune which awaits him.
