Chance Encounter with a Wild Panda / Post by Pandas International from China Daily Given their small numbers and solitary lifestyles, Pandas are seldom seen in the wild but a man in Shaanxi province had quite the surprise as walked his dog recently, coming face to face with one of these elusive bears. He Yidong came face-to-face with the Panda as he walked his dog along a trail.  He managed to take a picture of the encounter before his dog scared the panda away. In 2006, the government moved 14 families out of this area of the in Shaanxi province into city to preserve the environment for the panda population.  In winter, the pandas come down from the mountain to seek better bamboo shoots, their primary food source.  Occasionally, as a result, there are chance meetings like this.
