New Housing at Tiantaishan Mountain and Hetaoping in 2019
In 2019, CCRCGP Deputy Director Zhang Hemin requested support from Pandas International for new housing for the staff working at the remote reintroduction sites. This is extremely difficult work and made even more uncomfortable by extreme weather conditions in the region. Their small wooden huts did not hold up well to the elements.
Staff must back pack in all their supplies, for one week, and then live on site. A new modular housing product, was selected, which can be used in the mountains of Hetaoping and Tiantaishan, to house the keepers working in the wild.
The houses are made of a one of a kind new material, which can be used in the wild for more than 30 years. They will provide much better housing for these dedicated workers so they can stay warm and dry for their week in the wild.
Building this housing was slowed by rain and flooding in the area. Also there are no roads so everything must be transported by hand up paths and over temporary bridges. The houses were completed at the end of 2019.
Thank you to the estate of Ellen Keely who’s support funded these new houses.
